We worked closely with the Weinstein Company to create an engaging viral campaign that would generate buzz around the hit movie NINE. The campaign, NINE’s Take the Stage Contest, was a competition where website visitors were encouraged to record themselves via webcam while singing the lyrics to the movie’s hit song “Be Italian.” The words appeared on-screen, karaoke-style, and performers sang and danced along to the music. They then submitted their video and were rated by other website visitors. The grand prize? A trip for two to Rome, sponsored by Al Italia.
We also created an iPhone® application to supplement the contest’s microsite. The app allowed users to practice singing their song, recorded their performances and provided feedback from others using the same app.
We executed all of the technical work behind this massive project, including the concept generation, design execution, website and flash development, video and audio integration, native iPhone® application development, database development, and more. 108 performances were submitted to the website, www.nine-movie.com/takethestage. There were over 15,000 website visits in the short time period the site was up, with an average of 10 pages per visit and an average of five minutes spent on the site per user.
