Barney Kirby

Barney has been at HZ for over seven years, and currently leads strategic planning and research solutions on the Brand Strategy team, leading qualitative and quantitative approaches across multiple projects. He balances business goals with consumer needs to provide insights that define brand direction, product solutions, and roadmaps. He leads internal reporting on current industry trends to keep HZ informed and forward thinking.

He specializes in qualitative research methods, and has recently led research and strategic projects for Kawasaki Engines, Hilton Hotels Worldwide, Hilton Honors, The Carlyle Group, and the State of Maryland among others. Barney’s research background was informed as a Director of Interactive Strategy at Marriott International, where he developed and tested new products and services for Marriott Hotels & Resorts. He has a deep interest in service design, and has presented at both UX and service design conferences including UPA-DC, The Conference Board – NYC, and the Service Design + Tourism Conference Austria 2012, and Sarasota 2013.

Maryland educated, he holds a BA in English/writing from Loyola University – Maryland, an MA from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University, and an MA in publication design from University of Baltimore.
